T Harv Eker: Cheesy and Rich

The Millionaire Mind Intensive seminar is not for everybody. The hokey high fives and affirmations are more than I can stand, but I understand them. They're different and memorable. Surprisingly, a lot of people buy into it.
I don't. I couldn't always participate at a "Level 10." T. Harv Eker would say that's why I'm not a millionaire, because "how you do anything is how you do everything." I don't believe that, either, but most of what he teaches makes great sense.
And you've got to respect the guy. He's a self-made multi- millionaire and a best-selling author. So when he talks about money and success, you've got to listen.
His major message, at least the one that spoke most to me, is that our chance for success is damaged by our negative thoughts. Why am I not yet rich? Eker would say it's because I think thoughts that prevent me from achieving what I want, such as financial independence.
He's probably right. Eker calls himself a "financial evangelist," but he's nothing more than a master teacher. His subject is money. Specifically, why he (and other millionaires) have it and why most people don't.
Middle-aged, casually dressed in short sleeves and rumpled pants, Eker is charismatic yet real. He forces you to think. He had us deeply examining our financial beliefs. I concluded that four toxic thoughts have prevented me from reaching my financial potential.
1. HATE SELLING AND PROMOTING. Some bad experiences soured me. Even though I passionately believe in my ideas, promoting and selling them make me uncomfortable. It feels egotistical. But that's something I have to get past. I can't teach or help people if they don't know I exist.
2. IF I BECOME RICH, GREAT; IF NOT, THAT'S FINE TOO. Financially, I'm "OK." But being comfortable leads to complacency. Then I settle for being less than I could be. Not just with money. But with money.
3. I DON'T KNOW ENOUGH TO GET RICH. Knowledge is power. Ignorance is weakness. But if I can't take the time and make the effort to learn how to get financially strong, I'm the biggest hypocrite on Earth.
4. TEACHERS AREN'T SUPPOSED TO BE RICH. I don't teach to make money. I teach to help students. True. But I can work a second job. I can start a business. I can learn how to invest money wisely. I can be wealthy. A wealthy teacher.
Napoleon Hill, and later Earl Nightingale, taught that we become what we think about. That's the focus of The Millionaire Mind. What do millionaires think?
Insidious ideas such as "I can't," "I don't know how" or "I'm not in the mood" need to be crushed. Instead, think "I can," "I'll learn" and "I'll do it anyway because this is important!" Cheesy? Maybe. But I'd rather be cheesy and rich than cool and poor.
